<p>The Ballarat &amp; District Irish Association presents an exploration of the backbone it takes to migrate - to journey worlds away from home, country and night sky. </p><p>Poets, historians, and storytellers delve into the emotional courage and fortitude of Irish women who journeyed across the sea, with hopes of building a new life and creating new communities. </p><p>Featuring short film, poetry, historical readings, and live music, we will share together story and verse to bring heart to bear on the stories of the past - where fact is illuminated by fiction. </p><p>Set at a time of Samhain, when in Irish mythology the veil between the worlds is thin, we hope to hear whispers of the past.</p><p><i>Image: Reflections on Courage by Erin McCuskey.</i></p>

<p>Award-winning historian, author, public commentator, and broadcaster known for work across politics, academia, and media. A Professor of History and Public Engagement at La Trobe University, Claire has written five books, including the best-selling <em><i>The Forgotten Rebels of Eureka, </i></em><em><i>You Daughters of Freedom,</i></em> and <em><i>Ṉäku Dhäruk The Bark Petitions</i></em>, winner of multiple national awards.</p><p>Claire also hosts ABC’s <em><i>Shooting the Past</i></em>, co-hosts <em><i>Archive Fever</i></em>, and produces <em><i>Hey History!</i></em>, Australia’s first classroom history podcast.</p>

<div><div>Historian, educator, and author dedicated to making history more accessible through innovation, digitisation, and creative storytelling. </div></div><div><div>Her notable achievements include co-authoring <i>The Eureka Encyclopaedia</i>, which won the 2005 Victorian Community History Award, and <i>Women of the Diggings: Ballarat 1854</i>, commended in 2010.</div></div>

<div><div>Lucy is a professional historian with Way Back When, who has researched and produced the report <i>Lost Irish Women of Eureka</i> finding stories about the courage of Irish women on the goldfields. </div></div><div><div>The report uncovers the stories of 18 women, including ancestors of Margaret Lavery, who will also be present at the event. </div></div>

<div><div>Erin will be sharing film work based on the <i>Lost Irish Women of Eureka</i>. </div></div><div><div>Erin has a national reputation for moving image works that are unique, moving and expand our experience of story. </div></div><div><div>The youngest girl of a large Irish immigrant family, she studies the once prohibited Gaeilge (Irish language) and Irish mythology to understand concepts of home and belonging.</div></div>

<p>Mary is a psychologist with 40 years’ experience of engaging with the stories of her fellow travellers. A descendant of Irish and Scottish immigrants, she draws on her Celtic heritage to reflect on memory’s power and fragility in shaping our lives.</p>

<p>The youngest of six daughters from Murrami on Wiradjuri Country, Shel grew up loving books and stories. While completing her Master’s, she explored her Irish heritage — a journey to Ireland in 1998 where she found her voice as a singer.</p>

<div><div>Laurel established the first iteration of the Eureka Museum in 1985. </div></div><div><div>In her trailblazing work, Laurel was the first to recognise and publish the overlooked stories of women’s contributions to the Eureka Uprising in her 1995 work, <i>Women of Eureka</i>.</div></div>
