Discover your gold rush alter ego when you step inside our photography studio for an 1850s-style portrait.
Dress in our beautiful Victorian-era costumes and be instantly transported to the Ballarat goldfields.
The photographic experience takes 15 minutes and your prints will be ready to pick up in an hour.
These sessions have limited spaces on offer, so we recommend visiting the Red Hill Photography Rooms as soon as you arrive at Sovereign Hill in order to confirm your appointment.

Please note:
- A Sovereign Hill entry ticket is required in order to attend a photography sitting.
- Your sitting fee includes an 8x10 print. You can purchase additional prints, framing and electronic copies of your photographs for an additional fee.

What is the Sovereign Hill Photography Experience?
The Sovereign Hill Photography Experience is a costumed photography session held in the historic Photographic Rooms. Visitors can step into the gold rush era and capture a timeless portrait in beautiful Victorian-era costumes.
What is included in the Photography Experience fee?
Your sitting fee includes an 8 x 10 print. You can purchase additional prints, framing and electronic copies of your photographs for an additional fee.
Do you have a costume that will fit me properly?
Yes, all our costumes have Velcro at the back to be able to fit all body types.
What kind of costumes can I pick from?

How long is the sitting for?
15 minutes.
Can I get changed in a private area?
Yes, we have fitting rooms and the costumes fit over most of your everyday clothes easily.
How long before the photographs are ready?
1 hour after your sitting.
Are the sitting fee tickets refundable?
As our studio is very busy and books out very quickly the sitting fee is non-refundable.
What happens if I am running late?
Running late will result in your reservation being cancelled. If you require your reservation to be moved for other reasons, please contact the studio as soon as possible and staff will try their hardest to reschedule another time.
Can I take photos on my camera of the experience?
During your photographic experience, no personal photos are permitted
Can I book a large family / friend / work group in?
Yes, please call the studio direct to organise a large group booking.
Is the Red Hill Photography studio accessible?
Yes, the studio is wheelchair accessible via a ramp at the entrance. We also cater to a wide range of hidden disabilities and communication preferences. Our team utilises communication boards and is happy to adapt the pace and structure of the session to suit individual needs. Please let our team know how we can best support you when you arrive.

Do I need a ticket to attend a Photography session?
Yes, you must have a valid Sovereign Hill admission ticket to attend a photography session. There is also an additional cost for Photography Experience sessions. Please view our price list at the Red Hill Photography Rooms.
Where is the Photography Experience located at Sovereign Hill?
The Photography Experience takes place in the Photographic Rooms (map no. 25) within Sovereign Hill. This central location makes it easy for visitors to include a heritage portrait session as part of their day exploring the outdoor museum.

Photography sesssion can be booked in person at the Photographic Rooms (map no.25). Session availability varies and can fill quickly. We recommend heading there early to secure your spot.
