Food, Fire & Light Festival

As darkness descends over Sovereign Hill, a transformation begins with the aroma of traditional bush foods, crackling fires, illuminated art installations, story-telling, roving performers, and music take over the site.

Welcome to Food, Fire and Light - a new evening experience taking centre stage in October, fusing history, art, culture, music, and food. 

But this isn't your average evening festival. Like everything we do at Sovereign Hill, Food, Fire and Light is deeply rooted in the past but with a modern twist.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of our landscape, Food, Fire and Light let's you experience the pulsating night life of Ballarat's gold rush.

Goldfields residents would gather under the night sky, creating a sense of community and camaraderie around open fires where stories, music and food brought from around the world to a strange, new land converged to create new experiences, connections and identity.

Fast forward to 2024, Food, Fire and Light is a celebration of the community and culture that emerged from the nocturnal life on the goldfields, delivered in true Sovereign Hill-style  complete with humour, flair, and drama.

Food, Fire and Light has been made possible by funding from the State Government of Victoria's Regional Events Fund and the City of Ballarat.
